Sophia Antipolis Model United Nation – SAMUN 12th Annual Conference

« Go forth and shine » these were the final words to the students at the opening ceremony of the 12^th edition of the Sophia Antipolis Model United Nations. 

The 4eme OI students attended a 2-day conference at the Centre International of Valbonne in April.  Monsieur Petit, headmaster of the CIV, opened the conference and spoke of the importance of finding solutions to the problems the world is facing today from the threat to democracy to sustainable development.  He wished the committees many fruitful and inspiring debates. 

The Secretary General spoke of the importance of the Model United Nations as an activity that encourages creative thinking, articulating thoughts and gaining confidence.  “Model United Nations is all about finding your voice”, she said “and speaking about your own ideas”. 

The Deputy Secretary General reiterated this concept: “all new inventions start with a simple idea” and “the investment of the young today is to build a secure tomorrow”.

The closing ceremony saw several Collège Charles III students recognised for their excellence and we congratulate each one of them:

Marguerite NAPOLEONI for Most Improved Delegate for Ghana

Chiara SICCARDI for Best Delegate for Gabon

We also congratulate each and every one of the students that participated in this conference, it is a student lead conference and its success depends on them.  The feedback on all sides, both from our students and others present at the conference was overwhelmingly positive.

 

The closing ceremony included an emotional address by the Secretary General declaring that “the delegates are movement in a stagnant water” taking responsibility for the future of our planet.  “Let diplomacy be our biggest power”.

 

 

Sophia Antipolis Modélisation des Nations Unies

12ème Conférence Annuelle

 

« Allez de l'avant et brillez », tels étaient les derniers mots adressés aux étudiants lors de la cérémonie d'ouverture de la 12ème édition de modélisation des Nations Unies de Sophia Antipolis.

Nos élèves de 4e OI ont participé à cette conférence de 2 jours au Centre International de Valbonne en avril. C’est Monsieur Petit, Principal du CIV, qui a ouvert la conférence en évoquant l'importance de trouver des solutions aux problèmes auxquels le monde est confronté aujourd'hui tels que les menaces qui pèsent sur la démocratie ou le développement durable. Il a conclu en souhaitant des débats fructueux et enrichissants à tous les comités.

Le Secrétaire Général a ensuite souligné l'importance de la Modélisation des Nations Unies en tant qu'activité qui encourage la pensée créative, la structuration des idées et la confiance en soi. "La modélisation des Nations Unies consiste à trouver votre voix", a-t-elle déclaré, "et à parler de vos propres idées".

Le secrétaire général adjoint a rappelé que « toute nouvelle invention part d'une idée simple », puis a ajouté que « l'investissement des jeunes d'aujourd'hui a pour but de construire un avenir sûr ».

Au cours de la cérémonie de clôture plusieurs élèves du Collège Charles III ont été récompensés pour la qualité et la richesse de leur participation et nous félicitons chacun d'entre eux :

Marguerite NAPOLEONI, Déléguée ayant le plus progressé (représentant le Ghana)

Chiara SICCARDI, Meilleure Déléguée (représentant le Gabon)

 

Nous félicitons également chacun des élèves ayant participé à cette Modélisation des Nations Unies, conférence organisée et brillamment menée par les élèves. Les commentaires de tous côtés, tant de la part de nos élèves que de celle d’autres personnes présentes à la conférence, ont été extrêmement positifs.

 

La cérémonie de clôture comprenait une allocution émouvante du Secrétaire général : « Les délégations créent du mouvement dans une eau stagnante » en prenant la responsabilité de l'avenir de notre planète. "Que la diplomatie soit notre plus grand pouvoir !"
