Certificate of Initiation to the Sea

The BIMer club is offered to students in the fourth and third grades (within the 20 places available). It aims to enable students to acquire cross-cutting knowledge of the maritime environment and thus promote civil and military occupations related to the sea.
The final objective is the passage of a diploma: The Certificate of Initiation to the Sea (BIMer). This diploma is offered jointly by the Ministries of Education, the Armed Forces and the Sea. The BIMer is taught by teachers holding the CAEImer (Certificate of Aptitude for Teaching Initiation to the Sea). The BIMer club of Collège Charles III is led by Mrs TALON (professor of physical sciences) and Mr. PAIN (professor of SVT).
To validate this diploma, students follow theoretical courses for about forty hours over a year (accompanied by practical work when the subject of the program allows it) on occupational activities and scientific and technical knowledge in the field of the sea. They also participate in educational outings that may consist of company visits (shipyard, port facility, etc.) and meetings with professionals from the sea who work on land or at sea. A trip to the sea may complement these activities.
- This course will be held on Wednesdays from 12:00 to 13:00 and will begin in October.
- The five parts of the BIMer program are:
- Description, construction
- Buoyancy – Float Safety (fire detection and waterway)
- Sea and weather
- Navigation, regulation, safety
- Maritime spaces, their marine environments and associated spaces

The BIM exam is a two-hour, multiple choice and single choice questionnaire consisting of 60 questions (12 questions for each part of the program). It is online by students and consists of questions selected from a national question bank. The test usually takes place in May. The success of BIMer requires regular work, perseverance and a mandatory presence at the sessions that will be organized by the club.
Registration will take place in October. These will be done through an online form that will be available on Pronote when the time comes.
