Visit to Camp des Milles and the Vasarely Foundation
Students in classes 3ème 6 and 3ème 8 spent Tuesday February 13 in Aix-en-Provence, with their history-geography and French teachers.
They visited the Vasarely Foundation, with its original architecture. A treasure hunt allowed them to discover the artist, a specialist in abstract art and a pioneer in optical and kinetic art.
In the afternoon, they were able to discover a place of memory of the Second World War: the Milles camp was one of the many French internment camps. Opened in 1939, it brought together, under very harsh conditions, “undesirables” under the Vichy regime, before becoming a place of transit to deportation in 1942. Since 2012, it has been transformed into a memorial site.
This short but informative stay made it possible to concretize concepts studied in class, and to spend a pleasant day under the double sign of art and history.
