Exam preparation BIMer

On Wednesday, 15 January, students involved in the preparation for the BIMer exam went to SEPM (Société d'Exploitation des Ports de Monaco).

Ludovic Quesnel and Jean-Christophe SOLER introduced them to the structured organisation of the ports of Hercule and Fontvieille.  A great opportunity for students to discover the different trades involved in managing the incessant flow of yachts and sailboats. Port master, PCO (Operational Command Post) agent, port agent: each has its role.  Our speakers also stressed the importance for Monaco of having «Clean» and «Biodiversity Assets» certifications and the challenges that result from them. On the port, it is about 18 kinds of waste that are collected, 4 floating robots DPOL from Ekkopol and 3 people working 7d/7 at the collection. In addition, divers also perform once a year port cleaning missions to dispose of waste accumulated during years of environmental neglect.

The students concluded their visit with a tour in the PCO (Operational Command Post) where the panoramic view of the port and the many monitoring screens impressed them greatly.
