Monaco, March 5, 2025 – Ten students preparing for the Sea Initiation Certificate (BIMer) had a unique opportunity to visit a Maritime Affairs vessel, the Vitamar III, followed by an excursion at sea in demanding sailing conditions. An enriching experience that allowed them to discover life on board a public service vessel and deepen their practical knowledge of maritime regulation.
An immersion in the maritime daily life - The visit began with a tour of the boat, a modern ship of the Administration of Maritime Affairs, designed to ensure the maintenance of the coastline and the marking, the fight against marine pollution, Environmental preservation and scientific outings. Accompanied by marine professionals: Estelle, Cédric and Lorenzo, the students first explored the engine room, a small, impressive space full of technologies and engines that allows the ship to sail safely, whatever the conditions.
The group then discovered the cockpit, the strategic location where the captain and his crew command navigation. Students were able to see live the instruments used to manoeuvre the vessel, from steering control to radar and digital charts.
Out at sea: challenging conditions but breathtaking views - After this technical tour, the well-equipped students set sail. Although the sea was well formed, the group was able to live an authentic sea experience. Off the coast of Monaco, the students were amazed by the spectacular view of the coast, where the mountains stand proudly facing the Mediterranean Sea. The beauty of the landscape contrasted with the rigour of navigation, offering an unforgettable experience.
Shore Regulation Explanations - Throughout the trip, Estelle took the time to detail the marine regulations in effect along the coasts. Students learned about the importance of defined navigation areas, anchorage prohibitions, and speed and safety obligations in the vicinity of port areas. Seafarers stressed the importance of complying with regulations to avoid accidents, ensure environmental protection and ensure a harmonious coexistence between different users of the sea, including boaters, fishermen and maritime transport professionals.
In short, this trip was a great opportunity for the young people preparing for BIMto get acquainted with the maritime world while benefiting from expert advice. An adventure that they are not close to forgetting! A big thank you to Estelle, Cédric and Lorenzo!
