China

March 2025

The school trip to China took place from Wednesday 19 to Thursday 27 March 2025. The 34 students of Chinese from 3rd, 4th and 5th grades, accompanied by four teachers, had the opportunity to discover two major Chinese cities: Shanghai and Beijing.

With the company Air France, they started their adventure in Shanghai, the economic center of the country. They then continued their journey to Beijing, the political and cultural capital of China. To travel from Shanghai to Beijing, they took the Chinese TGV, reaching an impressive speed of 350 km/h—the fastest in service in the world.

In Shanghai, the group started with a visit to the Shanghai museum, where they admired magnificent collections of paintings, bronzes, ceramics, calligraphy and jade objects. Then, they climbed into the Shanghai Tower (632 m), the tallest tower in China and the third highest in the world. They also enjoyed a superb night cruise on the Huangpu River, along the illuminated Bund. At Fuxing Park, the students were able to observe and even participate in the morning activities of the inhabitants: dance, taijiquan, Taoist gymnastics, Chinese chess, etc. The atmosphere was particularly friendly.

In Beijing, the students discovered several emblematic sites listed as UNESCO World Heritage, such as the Great Wall, the Forbidden City, the Temple of Heaven, the Summer Palace and Tiananmen Square.

During their stay, the students enjoyed many Chinese culinary specialties, such as Peking duck from Beijing, xiaolongbao (small steamed buns garnished with meat or vegetables and a tasty broth), Chinese ravioli or even Mongolian fondue. They even had the chance to share a dinner with a local family. Moreover, they discovered different varieties of teas: green tea, lychee tea, jasmine tea, black tea, etc.

In both cities, the students used their free time to buy many souvenirs, while putting into practice their skills in the Chinese language—notably by negotiating prices with merchants.
