Aeronautics Club / CIA

Certificate of Initiation to Aeronautics

The Aeronautics Club is for all students of 4th and 3rd (12 students maximum). It aims to raise students' awareness of the world of aeronautics with a final objective: the passage of the Brevet d'Initiation à l'Aéronautique (BIA). The BIA is taught by a teacher holding the CAEA (Certificate of Aptitude for Teaching Aeronautics) and the club will be animated by Mr. PORTUESE (professor of physical sciences).

What is the BIA? The BIA is an official diploma recognized both by the Ministry of National Education and the Ministry of Ecology and Sustainable Development. Its graduation allows students to obtain scholarships for the passage of differences pilot licenses (glider, aircraft, ultralight) and is recognized by many schools of the aeronautics world as well as by the French Air Force.

Theoretical part: the aeronautical club will take place 1 hour per week. The training will begin in early October. Theoretical training consists of 5 different disciplines :

 Meteorology and aerology

 Aerodynamics, aerostatics and principles of flight

 Study of aircraft and spacecraft

 Navigation, regulations, flight safety

 History and culture of aeronautics and space

The theoretical part is evaluated during the BIA which will take place on the last Wednesday of May. The BIA exam is a multiple choice in which you must obtain the general average of 50/100 knowing that the score 0/20 is eliminatory. The success of the BIA requires regular work and a mandatory presence at the sessions that will be organized by the club.

Practical part: participating in the aeronautical club also means making 3 flights by plane, one of which as a pilot (assisted by a professional instructor). This implies a financial commitment of 160 €. This flight will take place at Cannes - Mandelieu airport and will be the subject of a special convention.

Other remarks: as part of the aeronautical club, may possibly take place one or more other activities such as a trip, a visit of companies, a glider flight, paragliding...

Pre-registrations will take place at least in June and final registrations will take place in September. These will be done via an online form that will be available on pronote when the time comes.
