BIMer Club
Certificate of Initiation to the Sea
The BIMer club is open to fourth and third grade students (within the limit of 12 places available). It aims to allow students to acquire transversal notions about the maritime environment and thus promote civil and military professions related to the sea.
The final objective is the passage of a diploma: The Brevet d'Initiation à la Mer (BIMer). This degree is offered jointly by the Ministries of National Education, the Armed Forces and the Sea. The BIMer is taught by teachers holding a CAEImer (Certificate of Aptitude for Teaching Initiation to the Sea). The BIMer club of Charles III College is run by Mrs. TALON (professor of physical sciences) and Mr. PAIN (professor of SVT).
To validate this diploma, students follow theoretical courses (accompanied by practical work when the theme of the program allows it) on professional activities and scientific and technical culture in the field of the sea for about forty hours spread over a year. They also participate in educational outings which may consist of company visits (shipyard, port facility, etc.) and meetings with marine professionals who work on land or at sea. Two sea excursions, organized in collaboration with the Maritime Affairs, are also planned as part of this training.
This teaching will be provided on Wednesday from 12 PM to 1 PM and will start in the month of October.
The five parts of the BIMer program are as follows:
Þ Description, ship construction
Þ Buoyancy – float stability – float safety (fire detection and water ingress)
Þ Sea and weather
Þ Navigation, regulation, safety
Þ Maritime spaces, their marine environments and associated areas
The BIMer exam takes the form of a multiple-choice and single-choice questionnaire with 60 questions (12 questions for each part of the program) lasting two hours.
It is passed online by the students and consists of questions chosen from a national bank of questions. The event usually takes place in May. The success of BIMer requires regular work, perseverance and a mandatory presence at sessions that will be organized by the club.
Registrations will take place in the month of September, via an online form available on Pronote.
